The United States consumes a lot of bacon. In fact, more than 1.7 million pounds is served in food service alone (restaurants). In America, the southern part of the country consumes the most bacon at more than 600 million pounds annually. That’s a whole lot of bacon!
Top 10 American Cities That Eat the Most Bacon
10. Atlanta, Georgia
It’s no surprise that this major Southern city is in the top ten list. Bacon is huge in the Southern United States.
9. Fort Worth, Texas
Forth Worth was once known as leading cattle centerĀ of America. Now it is the one of the top bacon-eating places in the whole country. This isn’t the only place in Texas that loves its bacon, however.
8. Charleston, South Carolina
Technically all of South Carolina loves bacon, but I chose the capital of Charleston to represent the state. One of the largest hog producing states is right next door in North Carolina, so there is a lot of supply nearby to feed their massive appetite for bacon.
7. Houston, Texas
Another big Texas city makes the list for eating the most bacon. However, this still isn’t the last Texas city on this list.
6. Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
The city of brotherly love is a huge lover of bacon. Maybe they should change their name to Bacondelphia.
5. Chicago, Illinois
Gotta love Chicago! A huge meat loving population resides in the Windy City, once known for controlling the flow of goods all across the country, especially livestock.
4. Baltimore, Maryland
Baltimore and Washington, D.C. are actually linked together in this ranking. This large metro area on the East Coast eats a lot of bacon!
3. San Antonio, Texas
San Antonio is perhaps most famous for the Alamo and the San Antonio Spurs basketball team, but it tops out on our list of Texas cities who love bacon.
2. Los Angeles, California
Los Angeles is the second largest city in the United States so it makes sense that a lot of bacon would be eaten there.
1. New York, New York
The Big Apple is also apparently the Big Bacon! Topping off our list of the cities that eat the most bacon, New York will be hard to displace.
All credit for this list goes to the fine folks at the American Meat Institute.
