Cooking The Best Bacon Breakfast On A Camping Trip

Every year, over 40 million Americans go camping. It’s a great way to see the country and spend time with nature. When you’re sleeping in the great outdoors, what’s more glorious than waking up to a delicious cooked breakfast, complete, of course, with some thick rashers of gourmet smoked bacon? It is a great way to start the day; you just need to decide how to cook it, so you can get the rind perfectly crispy and the bacon smoking hot.

Around the campfire

A traditional campfire is a great way to cook a few rashers of bacon, and you don’t need any specialist equipment. Because the meat is sliced thinly, it will cook very quickly. You can wrap a piece of streaky bacon around a skewer and put it into the flames in the same way that you would toast a sweet marshmallow. However, unlike a marshmallow, bacon doesn’t melt. Just make sure that you aren’t sitting too close to the flames, in case the fat crackles. Campfire cooking will add a great intensity to the already delicious, smoky taste of bacon.

Using a camping stove

If you’re planning a more ambitious bacon breakfast extravaganza, then cooking over an outdoor burner will allow you to pan-fry your ingredients. A classic propane backpacking stove is probably your best option if you’re traveling light. These have simple refillable canisters so that you can purchase more gas if they run out. Cooking bacon in the pan will make it nice and crispy, adding to the delicious flavor. Add in an egg and a little fried bread, and you have yourself a breakfast feast. You can even use your camping stove to heat up some cowboy-style baked beans

Fire up the barbecue

According to QSR magazine, 95% of Americans surveyed said that they love eating barbecue food. And who can blame them? It’s a fantastic way of cooking bacon! Simply heat up your grill, making sure that it’s been oiled, so that the bacon doesn’t stick. Place your rashers of bacon on the barbecue, and cook them for 8-10minutes, turning frequently. The Buttery Prime Rib Bacon and the Gourmet Applewood Smoked Bacon lend themselves particularly well to barbecue cooking.

Whether it’s an early morning sandwich you’re after, or a full breakfast, start the day as you mean to go on with gourmet bacon. You just need to decide how to cook it to enhance that smoky, delicious flavor.
